"Do you prefer Fashion Victim or Ensembly Challenged?"

What to do, what to do? Or, more accurately, what to wear?*

I have a wedding in a few weeks and I haven't the slightest clue what to wear. Everything in my closet seems old and boring and I haven't seen anything online exciting enough to make me pull out my credit card and place an order. {Who am I kidding? I memorized my CC number ages ago.} J. Crew and Anthro are usually my go-to's for dresses to wear to weddings but I haven't fallen in love with anything they're offering right now...

This is such a hard time of year to shop for clothes. Most stores are phasing out their fall/winter items and bringing in spring lines, but it's too early to wear the spring styles. Pastels, polka dots and strapless just don't seem right for January. Plus, there's always the question: "Is it appropriate to wear black to a wedding?" I've done it myself more than once and personally, I'm of the opinion that so long as you're not wearing white you're fine, but I always wonder whether someone is judging and thinking "Didn't her mother teach her anything?" Does anyone still think that way or is that just something our grandmothers' said?

So, what to do? Go with the standby LBD and jazz it up with cute shoes & accessories? Break out of my comfort zone and find something in color?

Here are a few contenders I've found. Think any of them would work? Keep in mind, it's a January wedding, 2:00pm church ceremony, reception following at a museum and hubby's in the wedding so he'll be in a tux.

ABS from Nordstrom

Adrianna Pappell from Nordstrom

French Connection from Bloomingdale's

J. Crew

Banana Republic

Thoughts? Advice? HELP!

*My Christmas recap is coming. Hopefully before Christmas 2010.

I LOVE the purple Adrianna Papell dress. I wanted to buy it for my rehearsal dinner last year, but they didn't have it in my size at the time. I think it's presh and totally re-wearable at other events, any time of year.

That said - I think the LBD is absolutely appropriate for a wedding. To hell with the grandmothers. Okay, maybe the meanest sentence I've ever written, but you get my point.

I like the ABS dress and the purple dress. I have to go to a wedding on Saturday and I struggled with the same things-Pink and polka dots wont exactly look ideal this time of year:) Let us know what you get

Love the Clueless reference! All of the dresses are great, but if you are feeling self conscious about wearing black, I think either of the dresses from Nordstrom would be good choices. With that said, I don't think its inappropriate to wear black to a wedding, especially during this time of year! You could always do a black LBD with a bright colored wrap to add some color.

I vote J Crew dress...very classic and you can wear it to a bunch of weddings/event without people thinking "didnt she wear that to the last month?"

The black JCrew. And, yes, you can wear black to a wedding. Several people wore solid black to my wedding (in a non-winter month nonetheless) and I could have cared less as the "hostess"). Black is timeless, classic, chic.

I LOVE #2 and #4! I think I NEED that black dress from J Crew. And I am cracking up at your blog title. I think I watched Clueless every single day for 2 years.

First of all I can see you were very productive at work today. =)
I like #2 and #4 as well. They are both really cute.
Black is always good in my book (Although before you take my advice you should keep in mind I just wore black hooker boots to our brother's wedding...)

Love all of your choices but the second and third dresses really stand out. The purple Adrianna Pappell from Nordstrom is to die for but there is just something about a one-shoulder dress that just stands out (in a good way of course!)

I'm a fan of black dresses at weddings. I actually had my bridesmaids wear them at mine. BUT...my mom was super, super weird about it at first. Clearly, I didn't care :)

I love the second one!!!!! It's purple!!!! LOVE.

And I don't wear black OR white to weddings. In fact, if someone shows up to mine wearing either they are going to be escorted into a changing room or put in a taxi and escorted off the property. xoxo Soon To Be Bridezilla (Kruger, in case you didn't figure that out)

I should add, black isn't allowed at mine because that's what my BM's are wearing. It's just a rule ... you don't wear the color the BM's are wearing. You just don't! ;)
