The Odd Couple

In what's sure to be the strangest pairing since Brigitte Neilson and Flavor Flav became an item, MAC has teamed up with Lilly Pulitzer to create a cosmetics collection full of the bright colors and retro-resort feel Lilly is famous for. The collection has been dubbed "MAC in Lillyland" and features funky bold colors in a variety of applications.

lip gloss
nail polish
and what I can only imagine is clown eye shadow...

The pairing of the notoriously preppy Lilly Pulitzer brand with the edgy, modern MAC brand intrigues me. I wonder if they'll ask the make-up artists at MAC to wear Lilly dresses instead of their standard all black, goth-like garb... I'm pretty sure that cross promotional concept would go over like a turd in a punch bowl with the MAC folks.

But, I have to say, this seems to be quite the clever idea on MAC's part, as it is sure to bring in a whole new client base. While I am certain there are plenty of young people who are fans of both MAC and Lilly, I can imagine there are number of "antique" Lilly fans who've been happily using their Mary Kay mauve lipstick for years and have never heard of this MAC business.

Am I the only one getting a good chuckle at the thought of a Lilly-lovin', middle aged, Palm Beach prepster making her first trip to MAC to pick up her "Lilly make-up," only to discover she has to purchase it from a gentleman with purple hair sporting more glitter and eye-liner than a cabaret dancer?

While the collection on the whole is a bit bright for my taste, I think a few of the items might make a nice addition to your make up bag when used sparingly. {Fuschia lip gloss + tangerine eye shadow + bubble gum blush = drag queen disaster. Unless you're into that stuff. In which case - Rock on, sister!}

Haha, that is too funny! I was thinking that same thing... very strange pairing. I think it would have been better for Lilly to team up with Essie or OPI for a Palm Beach nail polish collection. Not sure how cute hot pink eye shadow is going to look on most people... Lilly lovers or otherwise.

That is an odd pairing. But I am sure those 90 year old South Florida ladies will love that shit, they rock the blue eye shadow so I am guessing they'd be down with the hot pink too. Or they'll walk by MAC and take one look at a person with a facial piercing and take off on her walker!

I took my high school boyfriend with me to pick up some lipstick one time and he was visibly twitchy from the transvestites. But I kinda understand since he was very pretty for a boy.

Too funny... and agreed- weird combo.
