For the superstitious among you, this fact will keep you on edge for the rest of the day, worried and waiting for bad luck to fall upon you. You'll look both ways before crossing the street - maybe even twice. Black cats and sidewalk cracks will be avoided. You'll drive extra cautiously and perhaps check the sky for falling objects. When the clock strikes midnight, you'll probably breathe a sigh of relief.
If you're a bit concerned about today's date, you're not alone. Historically, both the number 13 and Fridays have been viewed as unlucky. For Christians, Friday has long been a day of misfortune. It is believed that Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden on a Friday. Jesus Christ was crucified on a Friday. There were also 13 people present at the Last Supper. There are 13 witches in a coven and 13 knots in a hangman's noose. So the bad juju about Fridays and the number 13 go way back.
Today, the superstition about the number 13 is alive and well. Most hotels and hospitals do not have a room number 13. Airplanes do not have a row 13 and most airports do not have a gate 13. Many high rise buildings do not have a 13th floor. Some cities avoid designating a "13th Street" or "13th Avenue." Italians omit the number 13 from their lottery and the address of a house between numbers 12 and 14 in Florence is 12 and a half. If you have 13 letters in your name, like Charles Manson, you're said to have the "devil's luck."*
Me? I think the whole thing is bunch of hooey.
I got married on Friday the 13th.
And it was perfect.
See, not a cloud in the sky nor a drop of rain.
The groom showed up. No one tripped and fell. The cake didn't crash and the florist didn't cancel. {The DJ did play the wrong first dance song but it was hilarious and a fun memory for us now.} I wouldn't change a single thing about my wedding day. I've never been happier than I was on that Friday the 13th.
We'll always have our March 13 anniversary, but The Mister and I like to think of each Friday the 13th as a special day for us. It reminds of the best day we've shared together - so far.
Happy Friday the 13th everyone! I hope the day brings you as much good luck as it's brought me!

Aww so cute! I totally forgot today was Friday the 13th. Your wedding pictures are absolutely beautiful!
I got married on the 13th too (Sept), and I agree. A little superstition sure didn't ruin my wedding day or marriage so far. Happy Friday the 13th Anniversary. :)
Love the wedding pictures, and that you celebrate each Friday the 13th...very cute!
Woah, I got married on March 13th. Wanna be friends?
Gorgeous photos!
Such gorgeousness!
I love Friday the 13th - the birthdays of my brother and my best friend. A wonderful day to get married, in my opinion :-)
Wow, that's too cool! I never knew that about hospitals and airplanes not having anything "13". I'm glad that your day went without a hitch!
awww.that's sweet....thanks for sharing your gorgeous wedding photos! I've been paranoid my baby girl is going to come early...I've been fearing Friday the 13th or 9/11. :(
I love your wedding photos. So gorgeous. Did you know that a perfect daisy has 13 petals? Random fact I learned while at the Winchester Mystery House in Northern Cali. The lady was obsessed with the number 13!
I love that you got married on Friday the 13th! Now I need to go check the elevator to my building to see if there is a 13th floor and confirm that there is no 13th row on an airpline (I never knew that).
Although I must say, being locked in a train 20 feet from mys tation for 20 minutes this morning makes me think there might be something to those bad luck fears...but if there is, I think you definitely changed your luck when you picked Friday 13th for your wedding day!
My EX boyfriend was born on friday the 13th (I should've ran as soon as I found that out, lol!).
I went to pickup my paycheck today at my second job, and it wasn't even payday. So I basically wasted gas, and my lunch break at my day job.
And I just counted my names, and they combine as 13 letters :(
Guess I have the devil's luck because my first and last name have 13 letters. Great!
Airplanes DO have a 13th row. I either try to sit in that row (lucky 13 is my motto) or rows 1-4. It's a thing I have. Now, whether ALL airplanes have a 13th row is unknown to me but several do. =) LK
p.s. was it a sign I was the 13th comment??? =) Do I get a prize?!?! LK
I am the least superstitious person ever and all of the #13 hype is a bunch of hullabaloo. We got married on the 13th of June. It was amazing! I'm glad we don't let it get us down girlfriend!
so i just counted and i have 13 letters in my name! i never knew. though, i do have a middle name so i'm going to go with 17.
I love this post! Your wedding pictures are gorgeous girlfriend! And I love that you get to have your own special day with your husband. That's so awesome!
13 is my lucky and favorite number and I love Friday the 13th!! I so wanted to get married on the 13th but the timing just didn't work out :( I love that you guys did it and now you have your special day!
