crap i should have posted yesterday, Vol. II

alternatively titled, menu planning failure

So yeah, it makes very little sense to post the week's menu on Tuesday.  Particularly when I only planned four meals for the week and the wheels have already come off the wagon. But you know what? I'm not perfect. It doesn't always work out as planned. And that's okay.  I often see people post their weekly menus and wonder how they can be so organized. I thought you might appreciate hearing about the reality of my attempts at menu planning.

So here the menu I planned for this week, and here's what has/will actually happened:

Sunday - Pizza (take-out, not homemade). Totally unhealthy, totally delicious.

Monday - Asian Beef & Veggie Bowls with Brown Rice (very loosely based on this recipe)

Tuesday - Turkey Zucchini Burgers with Oven Fries.  Yeah, that didn't happen. My meeting tonight ran past 8pm so B made himself lord knows what from the freezer and I ate leftovers.

Wednesday - Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Red Potatoes and Green Beans. This was the plan. Plans change. Now, I'm heading straight from work to the Magic game with friends. B is on his own again and I'll probably have a couple Bud Lights and a pretzel for dinner at the game.

Thursday Cuban Pork Chops with Black Beans and Rice. I'll probably make the chicken planned for Wednesday because the chicken is already defrosted and The Mister loves it.

No plans for the weekend.  Friday we're doing dinner at Ceviche for my friend Katie's birthday (Hi Katie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!). Saturday is Homecoming at UCF so we'll be tailgating all day.

So there you have it - the menu that wasn't.

Aww, I feel ya on menu planning that wasn't! I have great meals in mind when I go to the grocery store, but then usually end up throwing together the most random of items because I forgot I had kale that needed to be eaten... One of my long term goals is to get better at planning (and executing) meals. I mean, I'm only 30. ha!

I still think you should only plan 3 dinners a week. It seems like that might work out better for you.

My husband and I plan out our meals for the whole week too... And it's inevitable that at least ONE meal will get skipped/postponed/transformed into something else.

Just a hazard of busy lives, I guess!

Way to keep it real! :) I usually go with beer and stadium nachos at basketball games. Have fun tailgating!! (I'm excited for an away game after a marathon homecoming tailgate last weekend.)

That's what happens when life gets in the way. Look at it this way, at least you've got a head start to next week's menu!

Menu planning is not working out for me either. I was ok on Monday. Tuesday I had class. Tonight I forgot I have a charity event (with food). Tomorrow I can cook one of 4 other meals I had planned before leaving for the weekend on Friday and letting everything in the fridge spoil. Brilliant.

This is such a great idea planning out the menu for the entire week. I've done this in the past and it seems like something always gets in the way of my plans and I end up eating something else. But I'm going to try harder to stick to a menu! Thanks for the inspiration.

I love Wednesday. I would have had beer and nachos, that's just me. Plans do change. It's good you can roll with it. Enjoying the friends and the spur of the moment stuff is way more important than menus that never were.
