I'm not one for resolutions. I'm also not one for follow through. I'm fairly certain these two things are related.
There's so much pressure with resolutions. If I don't live up to what I've resolved to accomplish the guilt will inevitably sink in. I'll start feeling like a terrible person and then before you know it it's May, I haven't kept any of my resolutions and I'm elbow deep in a carton of ice cream to make the sads go away. And really, who needs that kind of stress in life?
Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration. I suppose resolutions aren't quite that bad.
Maybe I'll make a few.
However, I'm only making resolutions I fully intend to keep with very little chance for failure. Baby steps, right?
These are my resolutions. (In my head, this is being sung to the tune of that Usher song, "These are my confessions resolutions...")
1. I will learn to use my new dSLR camera. B was sweet enough to give me a great new camera for Christmas and I want to learn how to use it properly. I'm determined not to shoot in automatic.
2. I will not punch the trainers at the Y when they remind me that "Consistency is the key to success."
3. The infamous mirror will be hung in 2011! (For those of you keeping track, it has now been in the box in the corner of our bedroom for a year and a half. Oh, the shame.)
4. I will bake bread. From scratch.
5. It's been almost two years since we got married. It's time to make an album of our wedding pictures. (Or, preferably, hire someone to do this. Any ideas how to go about this? I don't want to use my wedding photographer.)
6. Drink more water.
7. The windows in our dining room, guest room and master bedroom need shutters or blinds (and have since we moved in two and a half years ago). I'll check that off the list in 2011.
8. Try five new local restaurants.
9. Bring my lunch to work more often.
I would go for ten but I think I've already been overly ambitious. Resolutions 2, 3, 5 and 7 will be challenging enough as it is.
Happy 2011!

This made my day. For the wedding pictures, could you do a photo book of all the wedding or most of the wedding pictures? My photographer made one for us and it covers our whole wedding. She used Blurb I think. Those are easy to do!
That's pretty ambitious. Mine...Not to watch The Bachelor this season. Like you said, small steps.
Perhaps I should add that I can only eat T-flats once a week. Considering I moved 2 blocks away from T-Flats, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make that one happen.
Happy New Year friend! I made wedding albums for our parents myself using blurp...and they turned out really good! I know it's a big task but you can do it!
I got a dSLR cam for Christmas too. And I haven't even started to learn it yet. (It's a Canon and I have to download the CD it came with to get the full instructions and I've been lazy about it) I've embarasingly enough have only been using "auto." So let me know if you learn anything good! I'll do the same!
I'm not big on resolutions either and maybe it's for the same reason as you. You should have fun crossing number 1 off your list but I will tell you the key is practice, practice, practice! Just make yourself do it when the pictures don't matter too much.
I had the same problem with a big mirror. But my problem was finding someone willing to hang it. Sadly, I ended up paying someone from the Handyman Connection like $75 just to hang the silly thing! I don't even know that the mirror cost much more than that!
Good luck and Happy New Year!
I'm not a huge on on resolutions either. They always tend to be the same - workout more, eat healthier, and read more books. Ha! Happy New Year!
Wedding album is easy! Use kodakgallery, my publisher, etc. I used My Publisher for ours, and I was really happy with the product. It's also super easy to use (and I think more professional looking than some of the other ones I've seen out there, but maybe that's because I went with a nice album cover). If you don't want to do it yourself, my friend Jenny is a photographer and does beautiful albums - www.jennylaurenphotography.com. Good luck!
I have 2 really awesome websites that I use to make photo albums...
www.mixbook.com (if you sign up, they will email you 30-60% off coupons ALL the time- so wait for a good one!)
www.shutterfly.com (they also use coupons!)
Both of these are SUPER easy: you just upload your photos, pick your look/layout, and then drag/drop the photos in place! You can't get any easier than that! AND you can create an awesome book for less than $100 (depending on amount of pics)...I created my bridal flip book for less than $20, and it's beautiful! Good Luck!
I got a dSLR for Christmas too, and need to figure the thing out!
Ok, so the camera one is on my list, too, and another blog I follow (where the girl has already accomplished this task) told me to get Understanding Exposure. I checked it out on Amazon, it gets great reviews (and isn't that expensive) and seems to be good for beginners. So maybe that will help you?!?!
I also finally made a wedding album last year of all of our pictures (combo of professional photos, which I have the rights to, and friends' photos) - I put all wedding events (showers, rehearsal dinner, etc) in one. I used Picaboo and could not be happier. It was the EASIEST program to use and manipulate and I loved the layouts. You can pay for whatever quality book you want - I didn't pay for a super expensive one b/c we have a "nice" wedding album of just the professional photos, but I highly recommend Picaboo and they do 50% off (so you can make the book and wait to order).
OK, how do you function without blinds in certain rooms? That creeps me out, my sister doesn't have blinds in some rooms too. :)
Get on that water drinkin' girl-get it in a Tervis and add some lemon and lime. YUM!
And you should totes punch a trainer every now and then...........:(
Great list!
You should look into making a Blurb book. We got a big one from our photographer, but I made 12 x 12 blurbs books for our parents, and I was thrilled with how well they came out.
I love your resolution to try 5 new local resturants. We need to do that too!!
Girl you need to make your wedding album stat! That is a biggy! if you have digital prints it may be easier for you to make it online like the other comments above! Good luck and Happy New Year!
Good luck!! I have used blurb before for photobooks and loved the quality. And I loved how easy it was to do on my macbook using iPhoto!
Good luck with the dSLR. I have had mine for six months and I am still basically doing trial and error. Sometimes it works out, sometimes I upload 68 blurry unfocused images, haha!
My recommendation would be for every Diet Coke you have, that is 12 oz, not filling a cup of fountain, have one bottle of water 16.9 oz. You will start peeing like crazy but it helps me cut down on my Diet Coke intake and let's be realistic I know that 6. Drink more water is code for 6. Drink less Diet Coke!
Great resolutions! I have a number of photography websites saved if you want a list of the sites I've used to teach myself how to use my dSLR. Just let me know. And I used Blurb to make a wedding album for myself and our parents. It's super easy to use and I think they turned out wonderfully. Good luck with that mirror. Our new bedroom mirror is currently sitting its box in the middle of my hallway. It's been there for 2 months now. It might be there for 2 years. Maybe that should be one of my goals too!
Your list cracks me up- especially the one about the wedding album. I feel like I tried to put that one off for a while as well. Happy New Year!
xo

I used Shutterfly for small wedding albums for our parents. It was great bang for the buck. If you use the faux leather hard covered albums, they look pretty nice.
Love the honesty! I'm also going to copy you on the "finally make a wedding album" hopefully I can accomplish this by my 2nd anniversary in June... we'll see though. I'm still working on the one for our engagement trip to Italy which was a year prior. I like Picaboo and MyPublisher best.
I truly feel like I could have written this! I am dying to learn to use my dSLR camera and I got mine LAST Christmas! ha ha. I keep saying I'm going to take classes and I just don't make the time. Here's to 2011! And I can't wait to see all of your gorgeous pics. :) Happy new year!
