The 83rd Annual Academy Awards sure were...interesting. I'm not sure I've ever seen so much awkwardness in one broadcast. Franco appeared to be high as a kite and Anne Hathaway was so over the top eager I had to look away a few times. At one point I heard her "woo" for one of the announcers. Oh my.
Still, there were some bright spots. Annette Benning looked stunning. I was disappointed she didn't win Best Actress for her role in The Kids Are All Right but she certainly won Best Dressed in my book.
Cate Blanchette's dress. You either loved it or you hated it. I loved it. And I applaud her for taking a risk and not wearing another version of the same dress we've seen 100 times before. (BTW, if I were on the red carpet I'd be wearing another version of a black or navy dress we've seen 100 times before. I'm just saying.)
Tim Gunn loved Gwyneth Paltrow's look and I make it a point never to disagree with Tim Gunn - particularly when he's right. I thought she looked phenomenal. I only wish her performance had been as big a success as her dress.
Other highlights for me - Aaron Sorkin's first Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network, Colin Firth winning Best Actor and The King's Speech taking home Best Picture. Truth be told, I would have been equally happy had The Social Network won the big prize of the night as they were both excellent movies. The stage design was another bright spot in an otherwise bleak show. The way it glittered and changed throughout the show was really beautiful.
What were your Oscar highlights?

Agreed about Social Network... I wish they would have taken home something. Also, LOVED Gwen in that Calvin Klein dress... she looked stunning!
I thought Halle Berry looked amazing too - understated but gorgeous. Her skin tone makes a lot of colors look so interesting that would look boring on others.
I loved The Social Network too - but I didn't expect them to win anything since I feel like people can't get over the fact that the movie is based on something so phenomenal yet shallow (Facebook). But if you forget about that, the movie was truly excellent.
I loved Cate's dress. It was so different.
I have to say, my favorite moment was Kirk Douglas. I love him so, so much and it was so sweet to see him. And to get an Oscar from him? I'd have dropped the f bomb too!!
Gwyneth looked stunning and sounded awful. Natalie Portman looked gorgeous in the purple number - as opposed to the dress I hated at the Golden Globes. Sadly, the show was a total bore.
Gwynneth was my fav dress too! I love Calvin klein! The rest of the show was painful to watch. too many awkward moments for sure!
Gwynneth was my fav also! I was not a fan of Cate's- the circle thing in the middle just ruined it for me.
i really want to see King Speach! Now it better be good! lol
Happy I found your blog Via Pink Lou Lou!

I think Cate Blanchette is so stunning. She is not quite your typical movie star beauty and that is why I love her. Oh and Anne Hathaway drove me ape sh*t.

Thank You!!! I have been trying to figure out why Anne Hathaway was bugging me all night! She was SO over eager! You hit the nail on the head! They should've key Billy Crystal host it for re millionth time. And please let that be the last time we have to listen to Gwenyth sing!!!
