Thursday Confessions

Wow, you guys sure know how to make a girl feel loved!  Thank you so much for all your congratulations and well wishes on Baby B.  I was overwhelmed by all your sweet comments and it was fun to see some new names I had no idea were reading.

I'm having trouble stringing together coherent thoughts today, so bullet points it is. A few confessions on this Thursday morning:

*  I woke up at 6am this morning, which is earlier than I usually get up for work. Rather than get dressed and head into work early, I put on a West Wing dvd and snuggled up on the couch with a pillow and blanket. Now it's nearly 7:30am and I'm writing this post.  Work will wait.

* I'm having a hard time getting excited about the Super Bowl. I love football, both professional and college, so the Super Bowl is usually something I look forward to. But this year, I just can't work up any enthusiasm. Steelers vs. Packers...yawn.  As a Niners fan, I grew up hating the Packers so it would be hard to root for them. And the Steelers' quarterback is a d-bag so I really don't want to cheer for them.  I think I shall refer to this as the "Not-So-Super Bowl."

*  You know what I am excited for?  Super Bowl food. Is there anything better than a meal made up entirely of appetizers? Not if you ask me. It's just going to be Brian and me watching from home this year, but I'm planning on making an embarrassingly large spread. Death by guacamole sounds like a good way to go.

*  I know it's terrible, but to those of you snowed in - I'm jealous. I want a snow day.  I want to stay in my jammies all day, light a fire in the fireplace and eat cereal for lunch. I want to watch more West Wing and read my book. Mostly, I don't want to go to the office. I know wishing for record snowfall and icy, treacherous roads in order to achieve this day off is terribly immature but there you have. I covet your snow day.

*  I had my first beignet last night. My thought - "meh."  I have to believe this was not a good beignet. I've heard quite a bit of fuss about the wonder that is beignets and this lived up to none of the hype. I was expecting something light and pillowy. This was dense, with a tough exterior. I'm assuming this is not a beignet as New Orleans intended. Not shocking I suppose that an Orlando restaurant serving 32oz Hurricanes in plastic cups didn't make award winning beignets. (For the record, I was the only one who did not partake in the giant Hurricanes. It was sad. However, I'm probably the only one without a Hurricane-induced hangover so it all works out in the end. Girls, how are you feeling this morning?)

*  I haven't taken any baby bump progress pictures. Isn't that something the newly pregnant are supposed to do?  Aren't first time moms-to-be usually excited and eager to document their growing bellies?  Well, I'm not. I just feel fat. To be fair, I felt fat before I got pregnant so this is NOT the baby's fault.  I suppose I should suck it up and take a picture. It's only going to get worse from here! I'm 13 weeks today so I'll try to remember to have Brian take a picture tonight.

*  I haven't read a single page of 100 Years of Solitude since I rediscovered it in my gym bag. I must force myself to get back into it because I was starting to enjoy it before it was...misplaced. I really need to put in the effort and finish.

Okay, it's 7:45. I should really start getting ready for work now. Happy Thursday! And to those of you staying home for another snow day - enjoy those PJs and have some hot chocolate for me.

I'm enjoying my day off and I'm probably going to the beach. I'll bring an extra chair for you.

We had 6 inches of snow on top of an inch of ice with sustained winds of 50mph. Visibility was so bad that I couldn't see the streets from my 9th floor window. Guess who still had to go to work....ugh.

And now? All I want is super bowl food. Bring on the queso, guacamole, spinach dip and wings!!

I love your bullets :-)

Your beignet story reminds me of my vegetarian friend Erik, who said he tried bacon because he was tired of how much fuss everyone makes about bacon, and he didn't see the big deal about it. My bacon-loving ways were annoyed, and then I thought to ask him where he tried this first-and-last piece of bacon. "Denny's," he said. DENNY'S! You can't judge the perfection that is bacon solely on something from Denny's!

Which is also to say... Nola trip for you?

You were on a roll this morning! You had me laughing. I'll gladly exchange a snow day for a warm sunny day with you. Snow days do me no good, we still have to come to work, no matter what the conditions are outside. Now if I was still in school, bring on the snow days!

OMG, I would love a snow day too! I am jealous that you got some you time this morning though in the form of waking up early... That is always such a rare treat!

I 125% agree with you on the Not-So-Super Bowl. Hello, the Packers beat us! And Roethlisberger? Ick.

If I die eating guacamole I will consider myself lucky! And you need to have a real Beignet! They taste like funnel-cake goodness!

We had a "snow day" but it was only called after I got ready for work and attempted to head to the office. I was then told to "work from home" so I had that looming over me all day. Totally lame. But, it was nice to be home and snuggled up with my pups and some soup!

Also, 100 Years of Solitude was a hard read for me. I really loved it, but, it was a slow read for sure. Good luck!

Congratulations again! And don't worry about the belly pictures. If you don't want to take them, don't. It's one of those great things about life. It's your choice!

I've had 3 snow days and haven't cracked a book that I have a similar situation with... And there's NOTHING on tv. I've already cleaned the house I don't know what else to do but drink wine.

Hi! I'm a new follower. Love your blog! I'm from New Orleans, and the way you're describing those beignets does seem off. You were right, they should be light and fluffy. You definitely have to try to real deal from Cafe du Monde...they are to die for! Also, I totally agree about the superbowl this year...and about the superbowl food!

You've got to start taking some bump pictures!

Unfortunately now that you've announced you're expecting I want to start giving advice... I apologize in advance ;)
Everyone told me to enjoy my pregnancy and I really didn't listen..sooooo.. I'm suggesting to you take their advice- Spend a whole weekend snuggling on the sofa, drown yourself in guacamole.....whatever makes you happy!!

Oh, and I agree this superbowl kinda sucks..

You're lucky you didn't participate in "Hurricane Wednesday" because "Hungover Thursday" wasn't a great day.

Snow days are awesome...the grass is always greener right? In Atlanta it has just been rainy but not quite cold enough to ice over...another day of work with a bad hair day because of said rain, yuck!
