Counting My Blessings

Please excuse my absence from blogging this past week.  I promise my lack of posting was justified. This handsome guy decided to give us quite the scare this week.

On Monday morning, my dad boarded an airplane. He wasn't feeling well but thought it was probably indigestion. As the plane was taxiing down the runway, he began to feel much worse and decided to ask the plane to take him back to the gate.  Thank goodness he did!  They took him to the hospital, ran some tests and found that he had four severely blocked arteries. On Thursday morning, my dad had  quadruple bypass open-heart surgery.  Today, he was up and walking around the hospital floor unassisted. How amazing is that?!?!

We've spent the last four days by his hospital bed as he recovers. While quadruple bypass surgery is very serious and recovery has been rough, my dad is doing so well.  I am so impressed - he's such a tough guy and is making great progress. I am beyond grateful that they found the blockages before he had a major heart attack and that surgery has been so incredibly successful. I know once he's fully recovered, Dad will feel even better than he did before. Good thing because soon he'll have a grandbaby to chase around!

And while it wasn't under the best circumstances, I'm also glad I had the opportunity to spend Mother's Day with my beautiful Mom. Even sitting around in a hospital room is fun with you, Mom!

My mom is the absolute best. She's smart, hilarious and the most generous, selfless person I know. She's the best mom a girl could ask for. I can only hope I'm half as great a mom to my little girl as my Mom has been to me. Happy Mother's Day Momma!

It's going to be a very busy week as I try to get caught up at work and at home but I'll try to be better about blogging this week. I know Dad has a lot of free time on his hands right now so I better keep him entertained. (Yes, my Dad reads my blog - when he has time. And he's even sweet enough to pretend it's interesting. Best Dad ever.)

Hope all you moms had a great Mother's Day today and that everyone else had a fun, relaxing Sunday.

Isn't science amazing? My dad had the same surgery 4 years ago and eventhough it wasn't a cake walk, it is so amazing!! Glad to hear that he is recovering. I know it was scary.

That is so scary. He must have really felt bad to have the plane turn around! Thank goodness he did though. I'm glad he's recovering now.

Happy Soon-to-be-a-Mother's Day!

Oh wow, your dad is so lucky! Thank goodness he had the courage to make the plane turn around. My dad had triple bypass surgery a couple years ago. It took him a few weeks of having terrible chest pain to admit something was wrong (stubborn!). Luckily he is fine and doing really well too. Hang in there honey, I know exactly how you feel. Give you pops a hug for me! :)

Wow, that is so scary. I'm so glad he had the instinct to get off the plane and get medical help and that he's recovering well. Tell your dad to take care of himself!!! He's got a sweet little granddaughter coming to dote on and spoil for a looooooooong time. :) Not to presume anything about his blockages, but if he needs a dietary change, you know I stand by the Paleo diet. Easiest thing you can do for your health!

Bless your heart! I know how scary that is, especially while pregnant! i had a similar thing happen with my dad when i was about 17 weeks! Glad your daddy is OK! My husband is a cardiac nurse if you have any questions!

I'm so glad your dad is doing so great. What a crazy story! It's so funny because my cousin had her dad go through an incredibly similar situation when she was just about as pregnant as you are. She said it wrecked absolute havoc on her already-crazy hormones.

Yay for a happy ending. I'll be thinking of him in the weeks ahead.

so scary about your dad! I'm so glad he made the decision to have them take him back! And I"m glad that he made it through the surgery with ease and is recovering so well!

The same thing happened to my Dad three years ago. He was getting in his car and just didn't feel right - so he took his blood pressure with a little home machine and it was sky high - so he went to the ER and they found 3 90% blocked arteries - we counted our blessings so much, as well, that they caught this before an actual heart attach. I'm so glad your Dad is doing ok. My Dad has said ever since his surgery how much better he feels in general. It's like you don't realize how bad your blood flow is when your arteries are so blocked, so when they fix them it's like your young again :) Praying for your Pops!
PS you look JUST LIKE your Mom!
