tuesday chit chat

Nothing important to report today, just a few random thoughts and tid bits to share.

I have to ask, how is it that the Prius doesn't make a sound but my breast pump sounds like a dump truck? If they can get an entire car to run silently, surely they can figure out how to make the tiny motor in a breast pump a little less loud. It's so damn obnoxious.

One thing that makes me feel better about neglecting my highlights for so long: I've discovered that I'm not yet going gray. Thank you baby Jesus. I don't think I could handle this pudgy post-baby belly and gray hair all at once. (Fear not, I got my hair done Saturday. I'm blonde-ish again.)

Yesterday, B and I met my sister for lunch.

I wish you could see B's outfit. My mom bought it for her and it is adorable. It has a matching cardi - cute overload. It was so fun to get out of the house and see Aunt Jilly, even if I did have to hold baby girl all lunch long. I ordered chicken fingers off the kids menu because I could eat it one handed and still didn't manage to finish. Babies are great for diets! Until I had Blaire, I never forgot to eat or was too busy. Now it happens all the time.

I've decided to attempt to make Blaire's first Halloween costume. My mom made many of our costumes when we were kids and we loved them. I would love to do the same for Blaire, but I'm not at all crafty so this is probably a fool's errand. I'm going to start right away, so there's time to order something if it doesn't turn out. I want to go to Hobby Lobby today to get supplies for the costume but I'm pretty sure it's been a bit too long since my last shower to be venturing out in public. Being a new mom is glamorous. :)

I made my favorite pumpkin muffins last night (recipe here) and added salted pumpkin seeds to the top. It was amazing. The little crunch and hint of salt with the sweet pumpkin muffins was delicious. Give it a try! (You can find salted pumpkin seeds at the grocery store. They're usually called pepitas.)

Daytime TV is crap. I usually have the TV on in the background most of the day while I'm feeding Blaire, folding laundry or catching up on blogs and Twitter. Slim pickings, let me tell you. 75% of the time, I keep the TV on ESPN but after you've seen the same episode of SportsCenter three times, it gets old. There's a new food-centered talk show called The Chew which is pretty entertaining and Lifetime runs Will & Grace reruns in the morning. And that's about it.

I'm trying to plan outfits for our holiday photos. Where's Rachel Zoe when you need her?

Okay, gotta run. Nap time ends soon and the laundry isn't going to fold itself.  Happy Tuesday!

Good news, The Wonder Years is now streaming on Netflix. That should entertain you for a while.

Amen, Amen, AMEN!!! 1. Breast pumps are freakishly loud. 2. I TOTALLY feel ya on eating one-handed. Motherhood has taught me that I can do almost anything one-handed. 3. Daytime TV is sooo tired. I am thinking about writing a letter to HGTV to request something, ANYTHING other than "House Hunters" and "Design on a Dime" during the day. I mean, can I at LEAST get a few episodes of "Color Splash" or maybe a little Candice Olson? Geeze. AND, 4. You and Miss Blaire look FABULOUS. I know you're soaking in every single moment! =)

When you find Rachael Zoe, let me know because I need to start wardrobe planning for our family pictures too. I bought a shirt today that maybe we can build the entire ensemble around. At least boys are easy!

I used to shove a pillow on top of my pump but it was still so loud that I couldn't turn the tv up loud enough to hear it (without waking the neighborhood).

i am so impressed that you are baking! i don't think i'd have the multi-tasking capabilities to bake and attend to a baby.

I am making those muffins asap.

Also, I finally got highlights and I feel like a new woman. My hairstylist was shocked I wasn't wearing a hat at all time to cover the roots.

I love daytime TV! Today Show gets you through 11am, and then I am actually really digging Anderson Cooper's Show, then there is Ellen. That covers all hours except for lunch, during which I tried to go out. Sigh. I miss maternity leave.

I hear you on daytime TV. During my maternity leave I discovered SoapNet, and I happened to find it the day of the Beverly Hills 90210 pilot - and then they'd do two episodes a day, every day. I'd never seen the show before, so was able to follow it through pretty far before I returned to work. It was one of the highlights of my day, haha.
