I blinked and this weekend was over. It was fun but boy did it fly by! Friday night we took a trip to the park. It was a gorgeous night. Warm, but the park is shaded by a canopy of trees and there was a nice breeze in the air. It was perfect. Blaire was in heaven and could have stayed all night.
On Saturday we went to the Soldano's house to visit with friends, grill, and swim. As you can see, Blaire was so excited to get to the pool. I probably shouldn't have mentioned we were going swimming until we arrived. Lesson learned.
There was good food and adorable, tiny babies to snuggle but I didn't get any pictures because I was in the water most of the time with my little fishy. I brought s'mores bars (awesome iPhone picture below) and they were a hit. Not the prettiest bars but they were darn tasty. Warning, the recipe makes A LOT of bars. And mine bubbled over the pan. Unless you need to feed a large crowd, I'd suggest halving the recipe and using a slightly smaller pan.
Blaire had so much fun playing with the other kids and swimming. She did not, however, enjoy seeing Mommy holding a baby. I was holding sweet baby Brady for a few minutes while his daddy manned the grill and his momma got a bite to eat. (Totally selfless of me - I wasn't thrilled one bit to be holding an adorable itty-bitty baby boy.) Blaire saw me with the baby and screamed "MINE! MY MOMMY!" about 19 times. Not a great time for a sibling - so noted, Ms. Sassy Pants.
It was a fun afternoon for everyone. Blaire was out like a light about five seconds after we got in the car.
We got home and I pulled weeds for a little bit. Let me tell you what, pulling weeds is dirty work but I sort of love it. There's something therapeutic about yanking stuff out of the ground. I could do without the bugs, worms, and spiders but it's very gratifying to see how much better the yard looks. And it's not bad exercise either. I should probably shut up about how great pulling weeds is in case Brian ever decides to start reading. I don't need him to know I don't hate it. I like how appreciative he is of all my work. :)
After yard work, Brian and I were able to sneak away for a dinner out. Aunt Jill generously offered to watch Blaire while we went out for a bit. Here's a gratuitous pre-date night self portrait with a bonus glimpse of my gloriously spacious but desperately in need of an update new master bathroom. Replacing the mirrored closet doors and weird cabinet fronts is somewhere on the bottom third of my very long list of house projects to tackle. You'll also note the iPad in the background. Anyone else get bored while getting ready? I usually watch something on Netflix or listen to music while I'm doing my hair and makeup.
|If you saw me at the baby shower the next day, you'll see I wore the same dress to dinner the night before. I was lazy and didn't want to iron anything else. Sorry for partying.|
There was a wait at the restaurant so we were able to sit outside, have a drink, and talk for bit before dinner. It was so nice to get out for a couple hours and I'm so thankful that Jill would stay with Blaire so we can get out. I'm hoping we'll find a nice girl in the neighborhood that might want to babysit on occasion so we can give Jill a break and are able to attend events that Jill's attending too.
Sunday was a great day but no pictures. We went out to breakfast and then I met up with some friends for a baby shower and a drink It was great to catch up with friends I don't get to see often enough. After the shower, Blaire and I visited Isabella the tortoise, took a walk around the neighborhood, and played. I caught a few minutes of preseason football before falling asleep at the unheard of early hour of 9:15. It was a fast & fun weekend and I cannot wait for the next one.
